Lazerus and the Gimp and Frustrated Poet are two of my favorites, although FP's wouldn't be the same without that avatar.

I thought my nickname would be an apt description of myself.

I was originally DR DANGER that came from me growing up in the 70's in Maine..my nicname as I played Basketball..lettered and was ok..the Bigtime player was DrJ (Julius Irving) so I had the nic name close..I figured someone might see it from that era and contact me..

              THEN

I enjoy invoking responses in people, was told about being a troll here..(For real didnt ever hear that term before coming to 'Poly!!)

Sooooooooooooooo..I changed my nicname to Troll!

This was such a neat name so thats why I chose it..about 2-3 years maybe??

I started calling me by the nicname GRANDPA TROLL on February 10 of this year when my Grandson Cameron was born

              Peace

                    Nice thread!
First stumbled across this expression in a soccer-manager game from the early 90's called "The Premiership Manager" which I bought in a trip to London.
Poor game really, but in the before-match display one could assign one player to take care of the dirty work in midfield. Like a terrier destroying the opponents creative efforts and players.. The players chosen in the role frequently got sent off the pitch... (not surprisingly) and was, as you all now understand, referred to as the hatchet-man..

Thought this was a cool nick since it reflects my style of play in Civ...

One entry found for "hatchet man" in
                    Merriam-Webster OnLine (usa):

                    "Function: noun
                    Date: 1880
1 : one hired for murder, coercion, or attack
                    2 a : a writer specializing in invective
b : a person hired to perform a ruthless task or a vicious or unscrupulous order. (as ruin reputations) "
"- Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes." - Oscar Wilde
"...men jeg kan jo brukes til så mangt, du kan jo koke lim av meg såklart. Og lime bilder inn... i minneboken din."

Some think it's from ancient Greek infantries, or the cities of Theben or Thebes...but really it's from an old Ad&D character of mine who was a pretty decent fighter. I really wanted to use my all-time favorite character, but she was a 'she', which might have led to some confusion as to my RL sexual orientation/gender...

I tried to come up with a clever and witty name but, as I'm neither clever nor witty, I ended up just putting in my real name. Oh well...
