Why would anyone support ANY politician?

I once read a book by Michael Bentine (British comedian - Goon Show - now dead, sadly). He made the point rather well.

"When there is a road accident and the ambulance arrives everyone shouts hooray, here comes the paramedic. When a water pipe bursts everyone shouts hooray the plumber is here. No-one ever shouts hooray the politician has arrived."

Politics - a necessary evil or a way of employing the unemployable - take your pick.

yeah, but so's the dmv--politicians have way too much power over our lives for unemployable folk.
