  • Why would anyone support ANY politician?

I don't understand when I get called a whinger or anti-American for pointing out that Blair/Bush et al are saying and/or doing things I don't agree with.

I can't think of a single politician who's ever come close to agreeing with me on every issue. They've all said and done things I agree with and things I haven't agreed with. OK... so Bush hasn't done anything I agree with yet but he might in future.

They are all self serving hypocrites (well, the ones in power are, anyone principled and honest wouldn't be able to make it to power).

I'll criticise all of them, Bush, Blair, Chirac, Schroeder, Schwarzenneger. I think you have to be suspicious of anyone who fully supports everything any politician has done. Anyway the point is that me criticising Bush, say, shouldn't be taken to mean that I think his political opponents are correct about everything. They'll probably be arseholes when they get in power too only the degree of arseholeness varies between them.

    Rant over.

There are some good ones, but I agree, they are few and far between. Somehow, there's this ignorant mentality in America that everything is black and white. Hence, if you criticize Bush, you are a Saddam lover. Don't worry MikeH, most people are reasonable. Don't let the dopes get to you.

asa you correctly pointed out... it takes to be a certain type of man to succeed in politics...

So it's better to support lesser evil, and supporting lesser evil has it's advantages, that't why you should vote for Charles Kennedy this round

As for B&B line of power... well... we should still call wrongs out when we see them, as long they don't start prosecuting people for un-PATRIOTic remarks... than it will be the time to shut up and a time for a revolution... ... I doubt it will come soon...

Saddam is certainly a leader who had very few policies I agreed with.

You've gotta vote for somebody, though. Pick whichever one is least repugnant.

Anyway the point is that me criticising Bush, say, shouldn't be taken to mean that I think his political opponents are correct about everything.

It's staggering how many people seem to believe otherwise, though, isn't it?

Why would anyone support ANY politician?

You've just got to pick your team and follow them.

You're not allowed to change teams depending on how they're doing at the time and go glory-seeking.

I'd support a politician who is genuinely hard working decent person, who wants to do change things and do things that I myself like. Hey, you asked who I would support. The person would have to have about the same values and promote them too, and not promise everyone something, because that is impossible. Just the things I like, and then he or she would really work hard to make those changes. I'd support that person. Someone, who is there working for us and not for themselves. Priority me and fellow thinkers, secondary himself. Uses every legal and borderline legal tactic to make those changes. This person is not allowed to sleep, and he must raise no salary. Also this person must promise me and my fellow thinkers free beer and strippers on regular basis. I'd support that fellow anyday.
