I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the rather large increases in productivity that accompanied the introduction of the computer to so many businesses, and to a lesser extent by the improvements in communications via the internet, optical networks, satellites and mobile phones.

But of course, who expects a Democrat or a communist to understand economics or business, anyway.

        two words: budget deficit.

and you can blame the Republicans for that.

Oh, I dunno. Commies tend to do quite well at business actually. One of the founders of Apple computers was a commie. I've met a couple commie stockbrockers who made millions. I was reading in Bushwhacked last night about a socialist multimillionaire. We understand the system, so we're better prepared for what's coming, as opposed to the fools who loudly proclaim at the height of ever cycle that it will go on forever. I still laugh about that issue of Wired.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Regulation doesn't mean subsidized, although in some cases regulated industries are subsidized.

You've already decided that we don't know anything about economics. That's why you think that. I have a BA in economics, and I'll tell you that you have no room to talk. You should listen to people more and stop thinking they are so stupid.

Sorry Imran, but I have to call you on this. I've had plenty of discussions with you where you blame the deficits of the eithies on govt spending. That is demand side economics.

I'll tell you what's an anomoly. The grammar in this thread title.

I sure hope someone didn't already make that lame joke in this thread.

In Canada it usually does. Ontario Power's rates are not high enough to allow replacement of aging generating plants. The infamous Crows Nest Pass Agreement froze many railroad rates at 1897 levels for almost 100 years.

Adam, you're probably the best person to ask for this. Can you give comparative power costs worldwide?

Not a dime to the phone company for sure....

AFAIK Hydro-Quebec is also a money-making concern... (but I'm not 100% on this)

I do believe tha Ontario Hydro does get money from the government, however.
