    The reason for that (and I'm guessing here) is probably that too many federal mandates are being passed on to states without the federal funding to carry them out.

      That, and the fact that government spending is tied to programs and population, not tax revenues. So when revenues decrease because of a downturn in the economy, spending still keeps going up.

        Federal money to the states has also dried up. Almost every single state in the union is in a fiscal crisis. You Californians are not alone.

          From all I've heard McClintock was the best in this debate. He really seems like he may have a chance now. Who knows?

            I argued that California made a mistake during the energy crisis by not letting the consumer electrical price rise with the market. I feel validated. The total cost is more because there was no price-dictated reduction in demand.
