Violence sucks, but I don't see why the misguided actions of a few nutcases should tar the disperate philosophies. It sounds to me like an anti-left agenda is using anything that can be accused of being leftist. Certainly I heard that old tune before.

Protest, write, talk, debate and question by all means, I draw the line at violence.

Too many hormones and too much time on their hands. Why not plant trees, eradicate weeds, remove introduced pests, and so on.

Reminds me of an incident in Melbourne where the Botanic Gardens were trying to deal with their bat colony by humane trapping and relocation- some deranged individual protested at this 'cruelty' to nature by vandalizing trees in the gardens. I failed to see the logic there...

I love it when people screw everything up like this. Look at all the enviromental and Animal Welfare organizations like Green Peace, PETA, the Sierra Club, etc... They are all left of center groups and so are leftist organizations. If you bother to read the link to the congressional testimony the FBI counter terrorism expert gave he listed ELF as an off shoot of Earth First (yet another left of center Enviromental group).

Please get the facts straight before you go around correcting people.

UR the FBI link has a bunch of good stuff in it including the definition of terrorism. ELF is classified as a mainly domestic terrorist organization though it has international ties. The definition is as follows:

Domestic terrorism is the unlawful use, or threatened use, of violence by a group or individual based and operating entirely within the United States (or its territories) without foreign direction, committed against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

ELF's slogan is "If you build it we will burn it" they have published manufestos in several eco-magazines in which they state their goal is to preserve wildlife and open spaces through violence if necisary. So as you see they are using violence to further political and/or social objectives and thus are a terrorist organization.
