not too bad here - we never lost power for more than a few seconds. Winds were high (60 MPH?) but not more than a few branches down. Local water pumps lost power, so pressure low, we're conserving and using our stock of bottled water. Some friends who lost power are going to a hotel - we offered to let them come here, but I dont think we meet their standards for comfort Princess of the Mark had a sleepover, so it was just a grand holiday to her.

We did discover some gutter/downspout problems, but a large bucket helped with that, and no leakage into the house. No flooding in this neighborhood, we're up on a ridge. Old town Alexandria looks pretty bad though.

I had a great time last night. Magic pills made me feel happy and glad and like I could invade Baltimore. All I needed was a rubber duckie, an air rifle, and electricity. I had none of those.

But man those clouds looked tight as ****.

Where was the hurricane? I certainly didn't see anything to write home about.

Why can't Texas get hit by a hurricane -- just for my entertainment and pleasure?

It does, frequently. Worst US disaster in history was the Galveston huricane in the early part of the 1900s, when more than 5,000 people died.

True -- but when was the most recent hurricane to hit Texas?

For some reason, I cannot recall any real recent hurricane that actually struck Texas.

I think Hurricane George was the last big one to hit Texas.

edit: Nope, it was Bret. Don't know what the hell I was thinking of...

What kind of name is Bret for a huricane?
