  • Am I the only person here who fears their alarm clock in a pavlonian way?

I have a "classic" alarm clock buzzer, i.e. BEEP BEEP BEPP. It is a fairly common sound.

Every time I hear it in the morning I get a mini-panic attack from being thrust from my sleep.

Every time I hear it somewhere ELSE while im awake(its a fairly common sound) I get a pang of fear in my heart, and my heartrate increases significantly.

    Anyone else have this problem?

I think alarm clocks are so barbaric..... as some famous guy once said "Sleep is mankind's only naturally happy state"-when we have our global utopia 300 years from now people will look back on alarm clocks as savage, barbaric and useless as we do on torso-snapping girdles from the 1700's.

I usually find I wake about 10 to 15 minutes before mine goes off anyway.

If you want to have irresponsible and unhealthy sleeping patterns, this is one of the results.

People that require me to get up early in the morning are not allowed near me either.

I tried to solve that problem by using a radio to wake me up. It doesnt beep but starts playing some music. And it is slowly increasing volume so I'm not supposed to freak out.

What actually happens is that, when the time comes, I hear a click from the radio being switched on. Its beginning to get creepy.... and has the same effect on me as a firealarm going off....

Trust me, there's no way to wake you up in the morning that you wont dread after a certain time.

You've heard his dog results, but you've never heard Pavlov's Cat results. If he published those, he would have been finished.

                    Pavlov's Cat Results:

Day 1, rang bell...cat ****ed off

Day 2, rang bell...cat went and answered door

Day 3, rang bell...cat said he'd eaten earlier

Day 4, went to ring bell on day 4 but cat had stolen batteries

Final day, day 5...went to ring bell with new batteries but cat put his paw on bell so it only made a *thunk* noise. Then cat rang his own bell.

                    I ate food.

Well I appreciated it, but then again I know where it came from. It's much funnier when you hear it in your head rather than reading it off the screen.

Same here... or actually worse... Whenever I hear the beep beep beep I'm totally confused, and have no idea what's causing the noise... sure, I know it's my alarm, but which one... I usually have two alarms set to (One 15 minutes before the second one), and whenever I hear the first alarm, I always tries to make the other alarm shut up... which of course doesn't have any effect and I keep trying for 30 seconds before I finally wake up knowing which of my clocks actually made that infernal noise
This space is empty... or is it?

I hate that noise, so I no longer use an alarm clock. I can wake up +-10 minutes of when I am supposed to almost all of the time, plus we can be flexible about our work hours, within reason.

One or at most two beeps from my watch is all that I need to wake up.
