I admire Johnny Cash for what he meant to music, but goddamnit, anyone with an ear can hear how he butchered great songs with his awful covers. Hurt doesn't happen to be one of them, though I do like the original better. HOWEVER, his renditions of Rusty Cage by Soundgarden and In My Life by The Beatles are two of the absolute worst covers I have ever heard.

I like some Cash stuff, especially the older stuff like Boy Named Sue and Ring of Fire, but regardless of how many times you fools say everything he did was pure gold I'll still find it funny because it is so bad. For exactly the same reason I find the new Metallica funny... cause it's so bad.

So... old Cash = good, newer "I'll just cover stuff" Cash = hit or miss but mostly miss. Roll your eyes all you want. Doesn't change a thing.

Regardless of any of that, he was a great musician and we will miss him. R.I.P. Cash.

You have a total lack of hearing .

And YES, you DID laugh at his cover of 'Hurt'. Don't back out of it now, now that everyone loves it and MTV nominated it for awards and everything.

Btw, his covers are amazing. 'Rusty Cage' is one of the best covers I've ever heard. He can take any song in the world and make it amazing.

In the case of "Rusty Cage" it was proof of the old adage "You can't make a silk purse out of a pig's ear."

I'm not backing out. I'll definitely admit to laughing at all of it. I just meant that some of his covers are better/worse than others. There really can be no resolution here. You won't be able to convince me that this stuff is any good, and I know I won't be able to convince you... but it's still bad .

Yes, so bad that it was nominated for MTV AWARDS! MTV!! Jeez, it was so popular that MTV couldn't do what it does with every other older or country artist and ignore it. It HAD to nominate it .

When a country singer is so good he gets nominated for an MTV music award, then it can't be bad, and those that think it is simply have no hearing left .

Imran, although I totally disagree with BustaMike, I am wondering what the MTV awards have to do with good music?
