Well, at least they salvaged the last game. That was key, as was seeing David Wells pitch like his back is ok. Big relief there.

Could have predicted the win yesterday if I had seen this thread earlier - bash the Yanks, suffer the consequences

Like Anahiem did last year .

And where is Anaheim now, my friend? 15 out of their division and not much less out of the wild card, at last count

So what, they got the win.. It's worth mortgaging the future for a World Series that no one thought you'd win in the slightest (Hell, I'd be suprised if 10% of pundits picked them for the playoffs before the year). No one is gonna care that they won't make the playoffs this year, they'll just remember the 2002 World Series Champions Anaheim Angels .

Yup, they can bask in acient glories one day, much like Braves fans can think of wonderful '95, or Chicago fans of '06 and '19, and Boston fans of '18.

Us poor Yankee fans can;t even remember the Yanks of '02 (didn;t happen), only of '96,'98,'99,'00, oh, and the 24 other times before that.

On a lighter note, Bruce Springsteen played a concert in Fenway last night. First ever concert to be held at the ballpark in its 91-year history.

And for thanks, looks like Georgey Porgey is going to can Torre at the end of the season. It's too bad that the current run happened because it makes it harder to believe that Steinbrenner is a total idiot.

... Naw, I take that back. He's a total idiot - especially if he fires Torre.

The current run happened because George stayed out of the way (relative to the 80s) and let Cashman run things. When George wants a championship, he tends to do irrational things. The more badly he wants it, the more irrational he gets. (And of course, saying George can get "irrational" is like saying the Pacific can get "damp" or Dan Duquette is "inept." )

On another note, Baseball Prospectus updated their "Postseason Odds" calculations. Red Sox at 82.3%, Yanks at 91.7%.

Edit: fixed link -- the current (9/8/08) odds for the Braves are 100% chance of winning the division, FWIW

I'm going to throw this up, hope the formatting stays logical:

                          NL East W L W3% SOS ROY% W' Div WC Total Key W
                          Atlanta 77 42 .583 .497 .586 102.2 99.4% 0.5% 99.9% 91

Of course that, and a buck, will buy me a cup of coffee.

King George is a serious PitA, and most of the time I just hope he keeps his trap shut and leaves his "baseball people" alone to do their jobs. Every so often, however, I do reflect on the differences between him and say... Carl Polhad (Twins). I'll take the irrational, foolish, pompous ass who is willing to invest in his product over the quiet billionare who isn't.

I don't follow football. But no, I wouldn't be a Dallas fan. Geography dictates it would be between the Patriots, Giants and Jets if I did care.
