Hmmm, that's more or less how they planned the space shuttle would originally look like..

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

Send us to Mars. We don't need a space plane for that, just use the Mars Direct plan.

Sending people to Mars, repeatibly, will spur technology in of itself, even if the primary transportation technology has been around since, oh, 1967!!!!!!
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

To us, it is the BEAST.

Use rail guns. Then they can double up as artillery cannons for killing those space bugs.

What would a space plane cost? $10 or $20 per US citizen. Money well spent. Heck, it cost me close to $20 last time I saw a movie.

The space plane is cost effective even for the entertainment value of all the cool new missions they could do.
