  • New computer *gloat, gloat*

At last I have replaced my Athlon 700 system which I have been saying I was going to do for a while but never quite got around to. Well I was feeling rich and compelled yesterday, so I went and bought all the bits and put it together:

    Pentium IV 3000MHz (800MHz FSB)
    1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
MSI Neo2 motherboard (look it up if you want more info )
    GeForceFX 5900 ()
    160GB 7200rpm HDD

Not bad, not bad I haven't bought a new monitor yet...I want 22" but it wouldn't fit on my desk, so I will have to wait until I get a place of my own and a bigger desk. My nephew will be getting my cast-offs as he wants a computer...(he's only 5 )

Of course I want one... But not enough to pay for it . I currently have a P3 600.

What are you going to use it for that your athlon 700 couldn't do ?

I guess you found a job then?

Damn fast, but then again, so is everything else

Yeah, I do have a job, and I seem to have quite a few potential jobs in the pipeline which pay considerably better than this one So I thought 'why not?'...and I bought this system...it cost about £1000 itself, but as I said, I still need another monitor (this is certainly not a bad monitor, a 17" FST).

But you know the story behind that one with KC and all. As soon as I have moved out of the Hull area it will be one of the first things I will be doing of course

What kind of an idiot will pay through his nose to get a P4 3.0GHz now?

It is the 3.2GHz that is extortionate...I've always done that, got the second fastest processor...a P200MMX when P233MMX was the fastest, a Athlon 700 when the 750 was the fastest and now a 3GHz when a 3.2GHz is the fastest. I am prepared to pay a decent amount, but I just don't warrant the cost of the very fastest...

...Besides, (1)Boys and toys and (2)I'm a little more pragmatic here. I bought an Athlon because they were the quickest back then. Simple fact is, they are not now, and it is especially misleading with that silly + rating thing which should have been dead and buried years ago...

...and (3)It is cheaper than an Athlon 3200+ despite actually been faster

                              You silly git.

If I were you, I'd wait for the AMD 64 to launch. That certainly will cause price cuts in P4's.

Anyway, gloating over a wintel box is almost as bad as saying "my penis is bigger than yours."
