Is there even a rival naval power?Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Wait, wait....that's a military project, not infastructure! (And I thought the link would've been going to Three Gorges dam)Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

If you look at individual nations, no. IIRC, someone said that a single carrier group was more powerful than any navy in the world.Originally posted by chegitz guevara

However, look at it this way - we need a large navy, because we need to project power around the globe.

The DD(x) is primarily a land-attack vessel that evolved outta the defunct "arsenal ship" program which was meant to replace the big-gun BB's and Crusiers.Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

A train between SF and LA? So you've got Rice-a-roni and smog, together at last. What's so great about that? I'd rather have the warship. Or at least the rail guns. I want a rail gun. Any weapon that could punch a hole through the entire Washington Monument is cool with me. Incidentally, would rail guns have recoil, and how much relative to a conventional firearm? I don't know much about the physics of them; on one hand, it's highly focused and controlled energy, but on the other, there's still that law about every action having an equal and opposite reaction. The power requirements alone would make it impractical as a handheld weapon, but I'm still curious, if anyone here knows.

I always loved riding trains. I hate sitting in congestions and working through traffic after a stressful day. In the NE, trains are plenty. But here in CA, they are too rare to be an useful alternative to cars.Originally posted by Elok

US is considering buying the stealth ship Visby from Sweden - at least for coast guard duties. This boat is capable of a multitude of duties - sub hunting, surface battle, mine sweaping, coast patrolling etc. This stealth ship combined with subs is the backbone of the Swedish navy.
Anyone know the latest development in this deal - did US actually buy the ship?So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students

As far as I know the USCG is very interested in the ship. The Navy has it's own "Littoral Combat Ship" program though.Originally posted by Chemical Ollie

isn't that like the biggest ship in your fleet? Didn't you have pocket battleships once upon a time.Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.
