I have XP Home and the only thing I've noticed which is different from XP Pro is there is an additional log in for differnt users. In home there is one log in and in pro there is two log ins. At least I think that's the way it is.

I haven't seen any difference in stability between XP pro and XP home... But I sure have seen a big difference in the spirit. Basically, XP home shows you in every instance that you are dumb. XP pro assumes that you can use a computer.

Besides, when my Dell laptop first arrived (with a XP home presinstalled), I was limited in what I could do. For instance, I couldn't install my old Office 2000 ! (The service guy told me this wasn't normal). It worked flawlessly after I uninstalled and got XP pro

He said Civ in all of its entirety. CTP is an official Civ game.

The original civ is worth it just for the novelty of being able to build roads on ocean squares... Your citizens could walk on water!!!

I remember that... I started playing Civ with the first opus on my Amiga...

But things have become so much better since. Civ2 was a huge leap forwards, and Civ3 has brought also so much (culture and trade are absolutely great concepts, but Civ2 fundamentalists were too obsessed with it being different that they didn't bother discovering the greatness of the concept).

My problem with civ 3 is that the ancient portion of the game passes by waaaay too quickly. It's like I blinked, and all of a sudden I was in 500 AD!

pro is more secure, for one. it also has more abilities in networking, in allowing users to do certain things, and all around, it's an able os. home is lobotomized: take out security, half of the networking suite, and make the users feel dumb.

Play on larger maps, and things will go slower (I play on Marla's huge Earth Map, and I need about 4 hours and several wars to finish the ancient era). However, if you play on too big maps,, the waiting time between turns will kill you.
You may want to do a simple tweak in the editor then... In the "world size" tab of the rule editing, simply raise the "tech rate" (x1.6 or x2 sounds about right). You'll have much more time to enjoy the ancient and medieval eras, and the later era-techs will still be discovered quickly

Dell's OK, if you don't mind paying a few hundred dollars extra for support and software.
