I remember watching Van Impe when I'd get home from working the late shift during my summer job. IIRC, he's been the predicting that the events of the Apocalypse would becoming any day now for quite a long time...he was certainly doing so back when I watched, which was almost 10 years ago. Where's the end times, Jack?

He's a joke. If anyone in the Bush Administration actually takes him seriously, they're a joke as well.

now are the end times, if you think about it (same was true 10 years ago)

By "ideals" I refer to the right-wing obsession with the End Times.

It's well known that Christian Fundamentalists only believe in supporting Israel because one day they will be smited in Armageddon.
To us, it is the BEAST.

I wouldn't hold my breath for any of these prophecies

Actually, i wish these clowns would hold their breath until it happened They were wrong in 999, they were wrong in 1999, so now they expect us to believe that, as (bad) luck would have it, armageddon will come in the next 9 years?

What scares me, is that people in the White House seem hell-bent (no pun intended) on making Armageddon a reality.

Not really. If Bush actually believed in Christianity on anything resembling a visceral level, his actions would be very different from what they are now. Going to Muslim services, for example. By most protestant standards that I know of, as well as Catholic and Orthodox ones, that's a big no-no. He did it anyway, because he balanced the need to appear as goody churchboy in the eyes of the right against the need to avoid animosity against the muslim community after 9/11, decided the latter was a greater concern for whatever reason, and did it. You cynic types have a number of basic pseudo-stereotypical tenets, but one that seems to be largely true is that idealism doesn't last long in politics, and neither does gullibility. If he invited Mr. Endtimes at all, it was probably a publicity stunt to salute america and apple pie and all the other whitebread values he stands for. Nothing new.

According to the Bible, as I interpret it anyway, when Jesus' followers asked him how they could tell if the "end time" was approaching, he didn't tell them, "don't worry", it'll be 2,000+ years in the future". He told them certain things would happen before their generation passed away. But that hasn't stopped virtually every generation of Christians since that time making dire predictions of the end time occuring in their lifetimes. And it would seem the "prophetic" parts of the NT dealing with Armageddon were about the seige of Megiddo...

                              You don't understand.

A person who actually believes in Armageddon is mad, insane, demented. However, just because he's crazy in that particular area doesn't mean he can't be normal otherwise.

Serial killers are like that. I am not saying Boosh is a serial killer, they are just examples of how persons can be insane in one small aspect, but absolutely normal otherwise.

Oh yeah, Bush can call himself a Christian, but I don't consider him very religious. Even Ashcroft put his hand on the Bible and invoked God when promising to uphold the Constitution and he's been trashing it for years.
