    From the article

" Aug. 13 — Is the Bush administration turning to a televangelist doomsayer for political predictions? Apocalyptic preacher Jack Van Impe is claiming that he was contacted by Condoleezza Rice’s office and the White House Office of Public Liaison for an “outline” of his take on world events.

‘[President Bush] will know exactly what is going to happen in the Middle East and what part he will have under the leading of the Holy Spirit of God.’
    — JACK VAN IMPE
VAN IMPE is the author of such books as “Israel’s Final Holocaust” and “The Great Escape: Preparing for the Rapture, the Next Event on God’s Prophetic Clock.”
He has predicted that the end of the world will strike somewhere between 2003 and 2012 and one reviewer has called his TV preaching show with wife Rexella “a fantastically loopy apocalyptic take on the week’s news.”
The issue of the alleged involvement with the Bush administration came up on his Web site when someone asked Van Impe, “Do you think that President Bush, apparently a Christian man, believes and knows he is involved in prophetic events concerning the Middle East and final battle between good and evil?”

“I believe he is a wonderful man,” Van Impe responded, and goes on to say, “I was contacted a few weeks ago by the Office of Public Liaison for the White House and by the National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to make an outline. And I’ve spent hours preparing it. I will release this information to the public in September, but it’s in his hands. He will know exactly what is going to happen in the Middle East and what part he will have under the leading of the Holy Spirit of God. So, it’s a tremendous time to be alive.” "

Bush is not plotting the Apocalypse or anything.

He was probably just curious to get Van Impe's thoughts on a few prophecy questions he had, just like any normal Christian would who was interested in Biblical prophecy.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Besides, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Van Impe's interpretation of end time prophecy is not very good.

Let's hope that at least the end of Jack Van Impe will happen somewhere between 2003 and 2012...

I wish these news sources would stick to reporting news, not unverified gossip.

Unverified gossip sells better; besides, when the people call in to complain about their sensationalization of the news, the networks can use that as definitive proof to advertisers that they have an audience.
Anyway, I wish the cynicism about Bush would make up its mind. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a good president, but he can be a cold-blooded manipulative politician looking out for number one or he can be a mad zealot hopelessly obsessed with archaic ideals. It's pretty hard to be both.

When I was a kid I went to a pentacostal church (aka a fire and brimstone cult) who thought Jack Van Impe was a good source of information. Scary stuff if Bush actually listens to him. He is a nut.

Personally, I'll wait for a credible source of information before making judgement. I don't place much value on his veracity.

The funny thing is the Bible doesn't speak well of false prophets and this guy's track record in making predictions is quite pathetic.

Perfectly believeable. Don't forget that important events in the Reagan White House were scheduled on the advice of Joan Quigley, a San Francisco-based psychic.

Reagan and his wife were both very superstitious. The President was fascinated with UFOs, and allegedly had two sightings himself. References to UFOs popped up in a number of his speeches, usually in the context of humanity uniting against a threat from space. Some believe this was the true root of his advocacy of constructing a "star wars" defensive shield.

You'd think that he'd go to a good one like Billy Graham and not someone like Van Impe. The man just strikes me as being freaky.
