Announced the same day as Auhnuld.
He's not. At least more than being signed up. He's already said he won't campaign, and his filing fee and signature gathering was done by an Oakland area lefty newspaper who was "protesting" the recall by trying to contribute to the "only in California" circus atmosphere.

Bull****. Something like 5 out of state canvassers, two of whom had felony convictions, and some whopping 300 out of 1.6 million signatures were gathered by them, and NOT submitted.

Campaigns don't directly hire canvassers, at least not in this state (with all it's initiatives, it's a full time business), they hire companies that sign up the contract labor, and are supposed to comply with the law.

Even if you take your distorted spin on it, all the rich guys and all the out of state canvassers (hell, make 'em Martians) can't make real live registered voters sign a petition for something they aren't interested in signing.

Popular campaigns for anything bigger than small town city council or small water district board don't exist in California, it is a very high money state for any form of campaign.

Thanks MtG... also having a governor with 29% approval rating, kinda guarentees that you could easily get enough signatures. You just need the money to pay the people to collect signatures (which ain't all that cheap to do).

Where did you see an approval rating that high? If Davis has gone up that far, that's a pretty big accomplishment. He's been hovering around 22% for a while, with approval in the teens for handling the budget.

There's 106 people on the ballot so far. This is going to be the biggest ballot known to man.

Damn, had me worried. He's like the blob, the only way to be sure he's gone is to fly him to Antartica and dump him there.

I think this recall's a good thing. I think we should see more of this kind of thing in the rest of the country - citizens actually flexing their muscle, letting the government employees know who is paying their salary, and solving the problems they see. People are argue against this recall are the same ones who think only a certain class of people are qualified for political office.

You can not impeach someone for incompetence. And Davis is not guilty of incompetence anyway, as much as some people may scream and shout.
Davis has proven to be a tough street fighter, and a money making machine for the party: as bland as he is, he can raise more cash in the state than anyone. That buys alliegence. The thing to do would be to presure him to fall on his sword, thus aoviding the whole election and making Bustamante gov.

I still think only a sucker would want the job now. Heck, if the crisis is not solved, maybe another recall in 12 months? Why not?

The recall would still go foward even if that happened.

Well, first there would be lawsuits over that. Second, unlikely that the first ballot would end up for a recall if Davis's name isn;t the one to recall.
