Gays make up a very small percentage of the United States population, so I don't imagine any one of them becoming President soon.

An openly gay man or women will not be able to become president. America is too homophobic. America likes to exploit gayness on network and cable TV because the stereotype is that gay people (especially men) are funny, quirky people. America is too embroiled in its own ignorant stereotypes for an openly gay candidate to be taken seriously. It's 2003, and sodomy laws have JUST been declared unconstitutional. "Gay Sufferage", as I call it, has just begun. I think it will be at least 25-30 years before we have a president who ISN'T a hetero white male.

It won't happen any time soon, and probably not in MY lifetime (assuming I live to be 60-90+). And that really is a shame that America automatically discounts presidential hopefuls based upon something as silly as sexual orientation, race, and gender. Mind you, it's not an active policy... it's more like an unofficial boycott.

What's been up with Sava lately? Every now and then a 'semplence of rational thought seems to works it's way in between his normal spam frying festivles...

Sava; are you feeling alright? Or are you taking the same medication as Zylka?

            Anyway, nice comment Sava

Hey smart*ass, we know and we accept the fact that we are a small percentage of the population.

                10% of population IS small.

As for the thread's question -- when Americans realize that sexual orientation will not affect a person's competence as president, then certainly, a gay or lesbian president is a possibility.

Diss, Japher: Just proves my point about ignorant stereotypes.

Anyways, I've been smokin' bud at night for about a month and a half. That seems to mellow me down.

what stereotype do I have? I was only making a joke. You'd have to see the other thread about how upset Boris got over my comments about gays making up a small percentage of the population. the truth hurts for some .

There's a disproportionately large number of people that want to kill me .

I agree its more likely that a president will come out while in office... certainly for the foreseeable future it would be political suicide to come out while in an election campaign - especially while the conservative christians wield so much political power. Still, ask one of them to provide you with a well reasoned argument for not having a gay president on the grounds of his/her sexuality (or any other of their usual positions), and the results are most amusing to anyone with even a light grounding in critical thinking (rant over)).

Still, for 2008, HILLARY!!! (or possibly Ted Kennedy's son? (simply because of the name - we're due a good assassination )).
