Changing file size of a picture without altering dimensions?
Need to know, sick of making "do it for me" threads

PSP (and Photoshop somewhere) have a "save for web" feature that lets you optimize jpgs by altering the level of compression used for it. -
Here's how to do it with Paint Shop Pro (you can find the 30 days evaluation version at http://www.paintshoppro.com/ )
- Open the file in Paint Shop Pro
- In the menus at the top of the screen, select the "Image" menu
- Choose "Resize"
- have both boxes at the bottom of the new window checked.
- tell the size in pixels or in percentage of the x axis. The y axis will adapt automatically.
- Save the file.

To have a transparent background, you need a gif image. The jpg format doesn't support transparent backgrounds AFAIK.Originally posted by Zylka

- Save your file as a .gif
- go to the menu "colors"
- click on "set palette transparency"
- select white. You must make sure the background uses all the exact same white
- Save your file.

You can't save it as a jpeg, because jpeg doesn't do transparency, and you have to make sure the transparency option is set on when you save it as a gif.Originally posted by Zylka
