Question for German speakers who have watched Saving Private Ryan

I tend to hate the early war movies, especially those with John Wayne in them, because they come across as uber-patriotic

I dont remember the movie and I dont remember the scene, but "Es is fubar" sounds pretty much like "Es ist vorbei" which means "It's over".

I am just guessing though

actually I wouldn't go back that far. when I mean older, I only mean 20 or 30 years ago .

I never could get into those old black and white war movies very much.

I don't remember this scene, and honestly I have no desire to watch the whole thing a second time. Except the opening scene it was pure crap. The word "FUBAR" with a bit phantasy could be understood as either "vorbei" or "vor&uumlr", which both mean "over".

Or "Es ist furchtbar", which sums up that film pretty well.
