Try one of the outdoor/camping shops for mosquito netting and either pin it across the window or make a light wooden frame so you can just place it across the window opening when you need it.

One of the advantages of the UK climate is that we don't have much of a mosquito problem although one of the fears about global warming is that the little bloodsuckers will get established in southern england.

Scotland has midges to make up for no mosquitos.

Does Scotland have proper screens, then, or do the midges come and go as they please?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

The midges live in the woods, urban areas are safe. Just don't go walking or camping in summer without a BIG can of insect repellent (or just smoke a pipe).
