Ages 0-2: Just have to roll with it.
Ages 3-4: Explain how the action is wrong, and have them correct it.
    Ages 5-7: Time out.
Ages 8-11: Ground them to their room. Remove all electronic devices and stick some nice learning books in there. All toys are to be removed as well.
Ages 12+: Alone: Do above. In front of social peers, embarassment tactics work best. Such as a kiss on the cheek, etc etc.

Until about the age of 13, my son was well behaved. But now the rebellion has started.

Good layout, Tass...I had the same general idea.

      (Embarrasment works wonders on teenagers.)

I really hate it when people start treating children like little adults. They're not! They are children and they need boundries. Most of the time boundries can be established with rewards, stern talkings to, and time outs but sometimes the choice is between spanking and being a bad parent (i.e. not proving to the child that you are the parent and he will respect the boundries).

Why is spanking necessary to proof?

All it does is encourage violence among the child to their peers. Which is a bad thing.

you do what is necessary. even if that includes spanking.

not all kids need to be spanked, but some do.

I have the urge to spank kids all the time. . You know what I mean- don't take any other meaning from that

You don't want to spank often but sometimes it is necissary and the kids will get the cause and effect when they do something really bad and they get spanked.

I honestly think many parents today are far, far to permissive and don't bother to set boundries like a good parent should.

There's no point having a tantrum if everyone's ignoring you.

It works great if you are bad.
