especially since this thread is clearly not being seen with an open mind.

You mean that people don't consider this horrendus 'music' to be good . Here is my question, do you think that rock or country require any talent or intelligence?

I mean, really, how many people here are really going to say popular musicians are 'intelligent'? They can just sing (or rap) good. So what? Doesn't mean they are smarter than the bag of rocks!

David... if rap is so easy, it should only take a few minutes to come up with something good... or may i dare say it? rap actually takes some effort?

and in any event, you need to compare lengths... a verse in rap has a word count of what? 100 words? all I ask of you is to make a less than 100 word rhyming poem... and you and Tassadar ask me to write several pages... it's clear writing a story or political discourse will take more time and effort just because the length is so much greater.

Not really - it's not a true measure of intelligence any more than any of the other challenges here are (although the other challenges are more indicative of intelligence than rapping).
that is purely a subjective/society standard. in any event, verse, rhyming poetry was very respected until the 20th century.

Yes, such as Phillips' (Base being Phillips, of course, not phillip) or James' as opposed to Britney's or Makeo's where the base does not end with an S.

However, it's always best to use full names in writing instead of shortened names, as it's easy to get confused. Especially when referring to a domain of names known for defiance of rules and such, where would be acceptable (Such low cultural value...Pathetic).

So INSTEAD OF Nas', TRY Nasir's.

          Imran:

the actual act of rapping is nothing... it's just talking. i mean you got to speak on beat and what not but the actual act is far easier than singing...

the main task of the rapper's art is song-writing and i think this is an area that requires some intelligence. a typical rock song does not approach the number of rhyming syllables of a rap song nor do rock songs rely as heavily on puns and similies as rap does.

Now wait a minute. Hold on, Imran.
You go a little far. Playing an instrument takes talent.
Making whooshing and shooshing noises with your mouth, like Rap, doesn't count as an instrument.

for someone as learned as you i honestly would've expected you of all people to have an open mind... you are a prejudiced man despite your intelligence

One, they entertained. Two, end of story.

To sit there and say rap is great is laughable. Some rap is good, most of it is drivel. I am not prejudiced, I'm an equal opportunity disdainer of crap.

Duh, of course rap takes effort. So does armed robbery, but that doesn't make armed robbers intelligent.

actually, this is a great idea

we have a challenge go out, people try there hand at the challenge

the winner gives another challenge out

of course, these challenges will have to be the type that can be written (Although perhaps we can hae video or musical ones by the attachment thingy)

                  so what do people think?

I wasn't goign to take part in this challenge, but now I think I am oging to

writing a song with simplistic rhymes (or none at all) and no poetic devices about a pickup truck or about non-conformity doesn't count as requiring intelligence.

The Anti-Curse Rap Mickey and Goofy (c) 2003 Disney records

                      Goofie:
all the day I hear the people curse.
some of these curse within a verse.
anger, fake or real, it doesn't matter.
makes the 'f*ck' and 'sh*t' abuse words scatter.

many people want the life of rap,
make the hoochies sit upon their lap.
                      although I can't say I disagree
                      Your lyrics must remain 'explicit'-free.

I'd rather you to rap like Willie Smith
and stop the use of words like 'f***' or 's**t'.
                      put a lovely intellectual wrap
on the grim realities of rap.

Yo yo yo, my man, Mickey, bring the heat:

                      Mickey:

                      'mother****er' 'b*tch' 'son of a whore',
I can't take those lyrics no more!
Relax, people! take the day off!
run around the bay like david Hasselhoff.

No need to be angry or be upset
when tomorrow you'll make cash from every disk or cassette.
life has been good to you now it's time that you see
you don't have to curse to sell an LP.

five rhyming sounds on each line, grinds my mind
tryin' to keep the scheme, weakened theme, cheapened dream
keepin' meaning in the lyrics being harder than it seem
as we see by the songs of the D. R. E. could it be
that in fact theres a gap in what albert calls rap
where the meaning fell out leaving meaningless blurb
relevance is all relative - i'm from Happiness-burb. so i curb
my wish to attack what is yours and remain just the same
lookin' for more to my music than poetry with a beat,
so if you'll excuse me, I'm off to be 1337.

To be fair, although most rap music does suck, the actual poetry of it is quite impressive if only they could stop whining about guns and hos.
