do you have any idea of what certain things cost on the other side of the ocean , .....
Really? I could get 2 network cards and a cable for less than £5 - it costs maybe £8 for a USB2 cable.
Have I been ripped off?
You're right, it's less hassle - assuming both machine have the same USB and the same OS.
Never tried runnings machines withi different OS?
That's when you go the old Client/Server route, and to be honest, I'm SCARED TO GO THERE...

have a nice day
What are the chances of both machines have a Firewire card? And the cost of the cable?
Panag, I think you know Israeli market conditions a lot better than I could.
It just seems strange that network cards and cables cost more than 1 USB2 cable, that's all.

Personally, I would go for ethernet hub and straight-through cables. Otherwise when the network expands, you would be throwing other bits away (like a crossover cable, or a usb cable), while still buying the hub eventually.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
The chances of someone doing that to a home network is quite slim. Unless you are unlucky and live in a hacking neighborhood, if your neighbors are like mine, they are illiterate (computer-wise) idiots. Furthermore, I haven't said one word to any of my neighbors, so unless you are particularly chatty and friendly, how would they know? And would someone come off the streets and surf in your hallway?
...ok...
possibly yes possibly no. Wires are so 1990 Panag.
hi ,
wires might be "1990" , they are still rock solid when it comes to security compared to radio waves , with the exception of bluetooth , but bluetooth is so expensive , ....
how easy is it to break in , well just spend 200 bucks and a good laptop , go around and scan the airwaves , ....
from denmark to russia , from the industrial areas of chicago to the backstreets of mexico city , ..... you always find wireless without security , ......
from airport X to train on line Y you find them , ......
the software needed to stop any unwanted sneakers is to costly for an individual , ......
and then there is the issue of speed , .......
not to mention that if you have armed concrete , and that you see a lot in Israel you get certain problems with walls , etc , .....
seen a guy ones in Haifa messing up an entire building with his waves , the people just could not watch the TV when he went online , ......
the case of USB I OR USB II or firewire are therefore rapidly made , ......
And wireless things are still Illegal in Israel, since the ministry of defense and the IDF haven't finished the move from the specified ranges of technologies like bluetooth.
