The exception for research and private study (as recognised here) fails on two separate counts:

      1) If the amount copied is "substantial" then you have transcended the act's requirement of "fair dealing"

      2) As the originals of textbooks are already meant for individual study, your copying creates competition (since you photocopied the book you're not going to buy it)

Usually, the amount of work copied must be less than a “substantial amount”, an amount undefined by Canadian law. The following guidelines are suggested for determining whether you are legally allowed to invoke “Fair Dealing”:

      Quantity of work copied
Quality of work copied (value of amount copied versus the rest of the work)
Competition between the original work and the copied work (marketplace, or use of a copied work for education whose original was intended for educational use)

And you complain about your money disappearing if you get a girlfriend?

I basically have no other expenses (other than housing, which was 920 this last month)

                  That's my point.

Girlfriend is more valuable than eating out, and is cheaper.

Please don't read any innuendos into the preceding sentence.

Opps, I didn't read pekka's first post. I thought he meant how to make an inheritence or something last.

To make it on $200 per month you shouldn't have to many problems. First cut out restaurants and going to the movies. Instead, download movies off of the net and invite friends over. Cooking at home will save alot of money and if you have your own apartment then I'd suggest getting a room mate so you can split rent & utilities in half.

Once you've done the easy stuff then it is time to think about things like planting a vegitable garden (if you have the space; even a small garden can amount to a lot of extra food you don't have to spend money on), look in the newspaper for coupons, sales, and discounts then only buy things you need when they are on sale. Don't forget to make out a budget then STICK TO YOUR BUDGET! That will help you figure out what you spend your money on and where you can save money plus it will help insure that you don't go into debt using credit cards.

Remember about all those free things you can do. Go for hikes, walks on the beach, a bike ride, jogging, read at the library, watch public art shows, go to music festivals (if they are free or cheap), and stuff like that. If you like to drink then you could always do what my friends and I did in college and just brew your own. In the US you could make twice as much for 1/4 the price and I'm sure with the taxes you have in Finland it will be even more advantagous.

                      Good luck.
