I think Pink Floyd is highly overrated. They have thei style, though. I love King Crimson, but while they are better technically, Genesis beats them when it comes to composition. The same for Yes. Dream Theater is nice sometimes, but generally they are far away in any aspect. I know ELP too little, I just listened though BBS; again, they are great technically and got some nice ideas, but their compositions aren't good, except for impression 1 part 1 perhaps.

I totally agree with everything Buck Birdseed is going to post later today in this thread.

I still have the albums of Yes, Genesis, Floyd and KC that I bought in the 70's when we had long hair and thought that freaking on instruments to show off how good you are was really cool. But I'm proud to say I haven't touched them for over 20 years now...

How can You judge something You don't seem to remember?
Oh course, especially Yes, PF and ELP, in smaller extent KC, and the smallest Genesis, were building melodyless overtechnified parts, but some actually are nice. Perhaps You feel bad about your past days... But not everything was that bad, at least not when it comes to those bands.

Oh, I remember, I may be old but not senile yet...

Man, was I glad when they invented Punk and we could get over pretending being intellectuals and drooling over pretentious s**t. I'll be your roundabout for sure...

            I voted Yes

            ELP and Pinkfloyd were runnersup.

Dream Theater. They're like a modernized Rush.

Genesis is not prog, at least since the early 80's.

I vote PF and other. While I personally like Pink Floyd better (mainly because of Gilmour's guitar solos), I can't help but picture Rush as the epitome of prog rock.

I've been thinking for like five minutes how to create a logical contradiction by posting something here that'd invalidate Hueij's first post, but I can't think of anything. So I'll just fill in what Hueij expects me to post.

If I want slower, mind bending stuff, I listen to Pink Floyd. If I want a faster pace it's Rush. Those two are my favorites...

                              How about:

What Hueij said earlier is false.
But these things always confuse me.

I've been debating with myself about what bands could be considered "prog", and what the criteria are. I still don't think Genesis would fit that bill because they got out of the Prog side of the spectrum a long time ago. True blue Proggers carry the mantle proudly to the grave

Some of the bands I would consider (maybe): Blue Oyster Cult, Queensryche, Primus, Zappa.
