(it's because r and l are not distinct sounds in korean or japanese: if it's the final consonantal sound, it takes the l, but if it's the initial, it takes the r.)

That must only apply for Korean (although I really wouldn't know). Japanese doesn't have final consonantal sounds, excepting "n".

That's because the Japanese don't have a letter L, or an L sound in their language.

Strangest (maybe not funniest) accent I heard was Queens English Cambridge overlaid on a guy born in Wolverhampton. Mixture of "one does this" with a Brummie nasal sound - very odd.

That's what I like about living in California. We produce most of the movies and TV shows seen in North American and a large number which are seen over seas so our accent, or lack there of, is fast becoming the nonaccented English.

          I guess we're coca-colonizing everyone else.

As an undergrad I knew a girl with that accent. I knew that she was from England, but I didn't recognize her accent so I asked where she was from in England. "I'm from Buhmingum!" Best accent ever.

for some reason I dig chicks who have a south African accent. I've never even dated a girl from South Africa so I don't know quite what's going on but I just love the sound of it when I meet a SA girl or when I hear them speak on TV.

Where is Birmingham, England? Like in the north, south, what?

everytime i see Birmingham i keep on thinking you're talking about Birmingham, Alabama.

most people in American cities share the same 'accent'. Most people i meet from other cities around the country, from east coast to west coast, sound like me, tho their are definately exceptions with in the cities (new york/new jersey, boston, etc). But really, is their any accent that is tougher sounding than the New Yourka?

nah... i think the south philly italian accent made famous by Sylvester Stallone in Rocky got the new yorker accent beat... they are kind of similiar though...

and the female americanized puerto rican accent (how most puerto ricans speak) is one of the best sounding accents... i dont see how it's funny, japher...

I had a revelation tonight while i was eating.

Did you ever notice how singers always sound 'different' when they sing, but not nomally?

Salene Dion has a thick French canadian accent when she talks normally, but i dont even notice it when she sings... the beatles and other english musicians had/have brittish accents, yet when they sing, i cant tell. Shoot, when i was a little kid, i didint even know they were foreigners.

Is it like this for other people too?

If so, the singers sound exactly like how typical Americans sound... so, perhaps that is the standard 'non-accented' english?

i realized that and my guess is they copy styles... most singers in the entire RnB genre sound the same when they sing. only differences are in the genders and in pitch...

for example, Justin Timberlake now sounds exactly like Michael jackson when he sings... does that mean that singing accent and pitch is a standard? no... jackson started it and justin copied. same goes with every other pop/rnb singer
