Explains the smell. Isn't she really, really cheerful?
But I digress. The topic is funny accents. Funny accent:
Hong Kong born Chinese person speaking English learned under British rule, then having to adapt accent to sound more 'American' after moving to America.
One of the hottest guys I ever knew (*ahem* in ye olde Biblical sense) was Australian. The accent has triggered in me some sort of automatic response, kind of like Pavlov's dog. BOING!
Note to self: Don't plan on meeting Boris G on next visit to NYC.

I was once in a restaurant in Glebe, Aus. I was told by an English gent at the next table (ok, I wasn't TOLD, so much as he raised his voice enough so that the ENTIRE RESTAURANT COULD HEAR HIM) that I had a HORRIBLE AMERICAN ACCENT.
Why does that not surprise me?

As an Aussie, the NZ and Canadian accents sound wierd. Tou hear no particular accent until one glairing syllable is spoken and all of a sudden you pull up short thinking "where have I heard that before?".

OK, yeah, I DO have a horrible American accent. I used to have a stutter too, but I got over it. I learned how to speak American by watching spaghetti westerns.
But at least the other kids finally stopped teasing me about sounding 'tarded.
Its cold and the days are pretty short. And its summer for gaud's sakes.
I am having a few surprising problem with my accent here. The local Aussie accent seems to require the word "you" to be a two syllable word, ya-oo, or at failing that an elongated yoooooo. People keep think I'm dropping my "you".
And I hate the damn location of the " on the keyboard. Why isn't above the 2, damnit!
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
