Yugoslavia had its own auto industry which produced cars, trucks, buses, motocycles and everything else. It started with licenced FIAT models and ended in the now famous Yugo line of products
I am guessing it was very protected but the products were still better then most of their eastern counterparts.
Wartburg being one of the more solid cars from the East. Illustrative example though, as it was built in former BMW factory - it was much worse then contemporary BMW models.
Lots of Ladas were imported from SSSR and even a small number of Trabants. There were initially waiting lines for cars here, but much smaller then in Hungary where they had to wait for a Trabant, which was unthinkable here, and ridiculed. I'd sooner shoot myself then drive a Trabant thank you
