So what are your most underrated films of all time? They could be masterpieces that had to become cult classics because most people didn't want to see it, or those that people thought sucked even though you believed it was amazing.
I offer three choices:
The Royal Tenenbaums - A star studded cast gives a wonderful performance to an off-kilter and very funny movie. It's a great flick, and I think everyone should see it once just to see the genius that is Gene Hackman.
The Big Lebowski - A great movie that is laugh out loud funny. The Coen Brothers normally do not fail, and with this one they knocked it out of the park. Jeff Bridges, Steve Bucesmi, and John Goodmen give GREAT performances (also recommended with this one: O'Brother Where Are Thou).
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut - A spirited hilarious political satire, which is... get this... a MUSICAL! It is utterly hilarious, and even people that don't like the show will probably enjoy this movie. It deals with issues such as free speech and censorship and provides a great ride on the way.
