Well it is my country... and arrogant foreigners don't know anything about it.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

Well, actually this one's painfully hard to forget
And awfully hard to find from CDDB apparently. This is it

In the west historically (as elsewhere too) the military classes were tied into the ruling classes - particulary to the landed aristocracies, and to a lesser extent to the high bourgeois. Despite flirtations with warlike leftism (like the Jacobins) it thus made sense in the 19th c for almost all elements in the left to be hostile to the uniformed military. Some anarachist and other elements were drawn to the left for a revolutionary "anti-bourgeois" lifestyle, and thus were deeply hostile to the military life, regardless of class ties. Other elements were less pacifist, but wanted a more democratic military, with less tie ins to elitist interests - this historically worked itself out in debates about long service regulars versus draftees, and about using active soldiers versus reservists. Thus pre-WW1 French Socialists opposed increase in terms of service for conscripts from 2 years to 3 years, not necessarily out of pacifism, but to keep the Army dependent on reservists, who were more deeply embedded in the working class, and less likely to be a pliable force in the hands of the officer corps.

ultimately there are 3 tendencies in the left wrt to military affairs - an anarchist-pacifist strain, hostile to all organized militaries - a communist one, not pacifist but hostile to the "bourgeiois" state, willing to support the military of revolutionary states, and willing to grudgingly support the military of bourgeios states in alliance with communists states (EG western allies during WW2) and a social democratic tendency, willing to support militaries but pressing for democratic reform.

Kissinger is a war criminal and should be put to death. But to Fez, he's a credible source.
