Of course when this is mentioned the teacher giving the Sex Ed class falls back on the tried and tested theory of abstainance by saying "but of course, the best way to avoid catching a sexually transmitted disease is not to have sex in the first place."

What we should do is infertilize the entire population of 13 to 18 year olds, to be safe. Maybe we should consider lowering it to 11, though, I hear them kids are tucking in early these days.

I've heard lots of young people have done that. back in my day (it wasn't that long ago really), no one even talked about masturabation, let alone did it in front of each other.

Many programs which promote abstinence do so by lying about other methods of protection. For example: the program here in Jacksonville teaches the condoms don't work. This only encourages kids not to use protection at all, since there's no point if it doesn't work. Consequently, higher rates of pregnancies and stds.

On the other hand, in schools where traditional sex ed is taught, kids are less likely to engage in sex, and those that do are more likely to use protect and not get diseases of pregnant.

This is yet another case where the conservative agenda is at odds with the results it claims it wants to achieve.
