Unfortunately my Cherokee language is even worse than my English.
I'll try, but I'm not really sure I get it right.
- "Well, this went places."
I guess it means "This thread was threadjacked again. Everything returns to normal status (US bashing)"
- "Yes, right through the Russian looking glass."
I guess it means "Yes, thanks to crazy Ivan"
- "That fish just won't leave the hook alone. The Newfies should be so lucky."
It's the hardest riddle. I don't know what 'Newfies' means. But probably this transmition was corrupted somehow and it miss a couple of symbols. If I'll put two symbols into second line it will be "New flies" instead of 'Newfies'. Then I guess whole saying means- "Oh... it's Serb again, we are glad to see him in this thread".
Could you please explain what those sayings really mean? I doubt I really get their meanning.Last edited by Serb; July 17, 2003, 06:48.

Yeah, right. Those Japanese Americans were quite happy to live in those nice, fancy looking camps surrounded by barbed wire
and guarded by nice looking, freindly and highly educated people,
armed with harmless rifles.
Some of them were so happy that they decided to stay there forever because it was the place where they found peace and harmony. They are still there, resting in peace.

It is so hard for me to imagine that someone puts more faith in Soviet 'facts' and 'statistics' than American...
I dont know what they taught you in school, serb, but most Americans TRY to expsoe the goverment whenever they can. Because of this, and the fact there is no incentive for the state depratment to lie, they simplely tell the facts. In a democracy, its muuuuch different than it was in the soviet union. Russia today probably has reliable information on the things it did not have 20 years ago, because it is now a 'republic' (tho that is questionable... the fall of communism in russia was indeed sad, not because communism fell, but because of how it fell. A few bastards raped russias industry for their own good, and made a few quick billions($) at the countries expense. Ignorance is bliss, eh Serb? Pride in one's country or culture is just fine, but such blatent manipulation of facts and ignoring ones own transgressions would make Pravda proud. One special quality of Americans is the public discussion of our past actions.
P.S. For great reading on a perspective of Japanese-Americans in WW2, try reading this
It's by Senator Inouye, and its his bio, mostly about the service in WW2. Being a realist, you probably won't read it out of spite. Prove me wriong"Dave, if medicine tasted good, I'd be pouring cough syrup on my pancakes." -Jimmy James, Newsradio

I hope Serb is not asserting some kind of equivalence between the Gulag, German and Japanese treatment of civilians and the American detention camps for Japanese Americans.
I've read a lot of literature from survivors of the Gulag, and historical accounts of the deliberate mistreatment/murder/enslavement of non-combatants by Germany and Japan, from a variety sources (military and civilian).
In no way is there any kind of comparison- and I say that as a proud critic of foreign and domestic American policies.

The only point I'make is that every country have its own f*ck ups. We had Gulags. Your beloved Western democracies had extermination of Native Americans, dention camps, colonialism, imperialism, etc.

'concentration camps'.
To validate this comparison you would have to show that the purpose of the camps and the treatment of the inmates was in some way similar.
They weren't, of course.
Soviet Russia didn't just have Gulags- it also had the Red Army purges, 'show trials', 'Soviet science' (holding back genuine Russian scientific achievement for Stalinist correctness) and anti-semitism/racism and imperialism of its own (Tatars, Volga Germans, the Baltic republics...).
I say this not in anti-Soviet or anti-Russian way, but if you are going to make invidious comparisons, then you should at least be scrupulous about who you are comparing with whom, or which method of detention with which method of extermination.Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

That was good.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
