Actually, he only kicked out the American inspectors because they were spies. The UN withdrew the rest of the inspectors slightly over a month later when Clinton prepared to bomb Iraq to distract America from his impeachment.

You know, just because one piece of info was wrong, does not mean that the entire reason for going to war was also wrong!
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

No, but it illustrates the utter contempt the Bush administration has the for the American people by lying constantly to them. The sad truth, however, is that the American people prove that they are worthy of such contempt by contuining to believe him even after the lies are exposed.

The CIA told Bush the info was valid. How was he suppose to know they were wrong? Just like every other President before him, he assumes that the intelligence agencies are doing their jobs to the best of their abilities. He has no reason not to believe the CIA if they claim the info is legit.
No, no -- you get it all wrong. Us lefties don't think Bush is dumb all the time.

You have to be at least half-intelligent in order to dupe middle and lower class Americans with conservative propaganda.

Of course. Bush must have been liking. There is no way the CIA could have messed up. Anyone who has a view different then yours is worthy of contempt. Your way is the only way of viewing things.[/sarcasm]

Leftists claim to be relativists most of the time, but every once in a while it bubbles to the surface their anger that not everyone thinks the way they do.

If you believe the American people to be worthy of contempt, why do you still stay in this country?

Funny thing is that Q-Cubed statements are all true.

I wish the people who knew they were going to be scapegoated would premptively leak to the press. One stiff finger for the Administration

How much more bollocks are you going to post? The facts are plainly evident, both Bush and Bliar recklessly ramped up the threat from Iraq to sway public opinion for a war that had nothing to do with WMD's, Al Quaeda, or any of the stated reasons.

Only a complete donkey couldn't see this.
No he wasn't. He agreed to the inspections at the point of the gun. Then he thought he could get out of it. He crossed the line when he invaded Kuwait. That meant he had to live with the inspections. ANd all those off-limits palaces! Give me a break. The limp-cheneyed UN didn't want to enforce a cease-fire, just like the French didn't want to with Hitler.

Sounds like you trust Saddam more than the US. How about those offlimits palaces?

                    Bull****.

The American inspectors were only claimed as spies by Saddam, on a pretext, as Saddam then went further and stated that since the UN inspectors were "international" that meant that nothing required that any Americans be allowed on the inspection teams at all. The rest of the inspectors cooled their heels for a while in Baghdad, during which UNSCOM tried to explain the facts of life to Saddam, that he wasn't going to dictate by nationality the composition of a UN body which was inspecting his compliance with UNSCRs.

In an escalation of this charade, Saddam then refused access to the remaining inspectors unless they accepted his demands as to national composition. Since they were denied access to inspect, they closed up ship and left, and the token bombing that occurred was in response to the effective expulsion of UNSCOM inspectors by Saddam.

The "spying" allegations were never proven, no attempt was made to prove them, and it was just another al-Sahafesque BS job by Saddam that the whiny left is all to anxious to get on their knees and open wide for. In the end, it was nothing more than Saddam's transparent manipulation of UNSCOM, by giving them the choice of being shut down in Baghdad, or accepting unilateral arbitrary demands by Saddam in what was supposed to be an unrestricted inspection process.

Again, Saddam-apologist bull****. Explain how openly identified Americans, traveling with Iraqi escorts everywhere they went, would be able to "spy" on anything at all? Especially, in that their jobs (as known to everyone) was to report everything they saw publicly, via UNSCOM's reports to the UNSC? What the **** were they gonna find with their Iraqi escorts tagging along that was juicy enough to report to US intel, but wouldn't have been made available to the US and ever other UNSC member via their interim reports?

The "spy" allegations were just a ruse by Saddam to kick one nationality out of UNSCOM teams, so Saddam could (in his mind) dictate conditions he knew UNSCOM would never accept, as a pretext for stopping inspections. Saddam was obligation to accept unrestricted inspections, and to make complete disclosures, as part of the cease fire agreement.

The question is how much does it matter? Saddam was in clear violation of the cease fire, he was in continuing violation of a dozen UNSCRs, and the mother****er had it coming.
