I've only heard great things about Selassie... about his abolition of slavery, his modernizing of the ethiopian legal system, his internationalism and pro-globalization stances, etc. all while being supported by the US. isn't he considered a great hero among africans? i know most people leaning towards black nationalism love him.

Mainly it's because he led the only independent Black African country during the age of colonialism. It has nothing to do with his actual rule, which was largely a disaster for Ethiopia.

Also remember that Black nationalists believe some strange ****. One of my coworkers tried to tell me Egypt was originally in South Africa. For Black nationalists, what matters is the color of the skin on the foot in the boot that's on your neck, not that there's a boot on your neck.

I don't count Serra Leone and Liberia since they were virtual colonies, independent in name only. Liberia was basically a colony of the Firestone corporation, for example.
