I don't know that many Americans. *shrug*
I doubt most of the food from food drives goes to families. I imagine most of it goes to homeless shelters and most of the homeless are homeless for one of two reasons. 1) Substance abuse, which makes them unemployable or 2) Mental illness, which makes them unemployable. At least that's what I saw when I used to volunteer to work at one of the local shelters when I was in college.

Nearly all of these people get welfare checks but they choice to spend them on things other then food (like drugs or liquor) so I really don't feel sorry for them. Mostly I just petty them.

but the point is... there are ways to make money, legit or not, and most people do got enough money to feed themselves... in case they are running short, they can get food very cheap (come on, you get a big ass loaf of bread for 99 cents standard price and that **** makes enough sandwiches for over a week... cans of vienna sausages are a 15 cents to a quarter each)... and just in case, you somehow can't afford that, there's charities, school/camp lunch programs, and welfare...

so the point is, you got to try to starve...

          hungry is starving?

Speers point, Sava, is that it is really easy to feed one's self, even if all you do is panhandle... So argue that instead of spam

Speers has indicated that he was in fact speaking from experience to which you replied that one persons experience does not account for everyones... Man Sava, so dubious aren't you?

Oh, and I can take the heat, I was just trying to be like you and spam!

i dont understand... i was speaking from experience...

how can you disprove all the ways to get food cheaply that i said... might not be the healthiest food but it's still enough to ward off starvation... again...

You misunderstand. I'm not saying you are wrong... I am saying your experience and knowledge isn't representative of the vast majority of poor.

                    • i dont understand... it's easy to get food... maybe the reservations or the barrios dont got the infrastructure that makes food cheap and easy to buy but they aren't the vast majority of lower classes

This, however, is a food choice problem, but as makers of poor quality food target the poor, blame doesn't lie entirely with the poor. After all, if advertizing and marketing didn't work, they wouldn't spend billions on it, would they?

I was eligible for this because we were poor when I was growing up. But I only took the milk because the rest of the food was sh!t, and I was fed well enough at home because my mother wasn't completely useless. This is really the crux of the issue. No one has to starve, there are plenty of ways to get food in the U.S. Food stamps will get you by if you have a kitchen, or even a hotplate and a kettle. But it takes some effort to cook a meal from scratch, and this is beyond the capabilities of some parents. Since taking children from parents who can't handle their responsibilities is such a politically charged situation, we find it easier to simply let a few children suffer from malnutrition, and a huge number from obesity. The same is true for the homeless. Some perhaps should be institutionalized, but that's expensive and the vast majority don't want to be institutionalized. So we let them freely kill themselves slowly.
