The parents? You know nothing about the parents. What do they have to do about it. Do you have some evidence that kids only miss meals because of their parents behavior?

After all, if advertizing and marketing didn't work, they wouldn't spend billions on it, would they?
I agree they are eating the wrong types of food. See my original post about McDonald's.

But I disagree that the companies target the poor with their products. If anything, they target both the middle and lower class with their products. As both consume them heavily.

Why should any citizen of a country is forced to rummage around trash for food? Is that not an accusation against this society?

and you use broad generalizations to say I watch Fox News. So you are guilty of it as well. So don't pretend to take the high road over me. What makes you think I watch Fox News? You just assumed I did.
You've often said yourself at the ACS OT that you watch FOX.

ACS? what the hell is that?

I don't post there, whatever that is. This is the only off-topic I post at currently. I used to post at counterglow, but don't post there like I do here, I'm less political.

Damn. Please try harder. Maybe it's because they had to pay taxes.

60 Minutes had an excellent story about hungry people in America. Most are working class families where the chief income provider loses his/her job. How many jobs have been lost since Bush took office? Is it over 3 million yet? And how many of those unemployed have children? Do the math.

and I do admit my last paragraph in my original post is a troll.

But I do say that guilt is pretty big thing in the left wing world. I can't prove this of course. This is just a suspicion I have. I sometimes feel guilty for being smart and being well off (I am still considered lower class though, I don't make much money per year). I think a lot of people feel bad when they look at how hard other people have it. But I'm just not willing to give up all that I have worked so hard for. And yes I have worked hard for them, my job does require actual physical work. My life is not easy. I easy. I have social anxiety- and this severely limits my ability to get jobs- I cannot get through interviews. I have struggled to make it this far. Is it too much to ask that other people earn their lifestyle like I had to?

You blame the job losses on Bush? Most of those were the airline industry jobs. That can be attributed to 9/11 and poor company management.

how in the hell am I supposed to know ACS is Apolyton?

I have never in the entire time I've been here heard it referred to as that.

I'm sorry I'm not smart enough for you.

How about arrogant people such as yourself give me money to make me feel good about not being as fortunate as you.

I will expect the check in the mail. I will PM my address to you.

It's not about guilt... it's about wanting the system to be fair. There will always be poverty. And some poor people ARE lazy. But there are many who get stuck in poverty due to situations out of their control. These are hard-working people that are willing to work for a living. I'm in favor of social programs that give opprotunities to people who WANT to work. Nobody can help someone who's determined to be lazy. But I suspect most people lose hope at some point, and since private charity isn't capable of solving the problem, I think the government should step in. And for those of you who don't remember the preamble of the Constitution:
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
I think Capitalism is great... I just want a level playing field.
To us, it is the BEAST.
