Family Guy does indeed have some hilarious jokes and moments in it... Sadly, you have to wade through about 15 failed crap-jokes to get to the gold. And while that's happening, there's no interesting plot to be followed.
Futurama is exponentially better. The episodes are packed with SUCCESSFUL jokes, yet the plots are still strong and hold your attention. The episode where Bender meets God has to be one of the best of all time... for any show.
But the Futurama episode where Bender meets god is great.
1st and only commandment : "God wants beer"
later on when they start nuclear war,
Peasent - "Don't worry god, for soon we will all be with you"
Bender - "No!! no, this is the maximum of being with me you can get"If you can't Dazzle them with Brilliance, Baffle them with Bull****.

I think the unsuccesful jokes you talk of are just not your kind of humor, most episodes I watch don't go 15 seconds without me or many of my friends laughing our asses off. I think its all just the persons sense of humor, and if the show is making fun of something related to you at the moment or not.

I liked the first few shows better, when no one could understand Stewie and he was always plotting against his mother. After they changed that I wasn't as interested.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Kramerman: I'd actually say that Family Guy was a cross between the Simpsons and South Park.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Family Guy has the humor that suits me the best, I want jokes and action, if I wanted a story I would read a book. It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

Anyone who likes King of the Hill needs their head checked. I have never, ever even come close to smiling while watching that show. They don't have a single sympathetic character (except maybe for that female friend of Billy's, but she's not funny).
Family Guy is closer to the work of Kevin Smith and Futurama is closer to the work of the Monty Python gang. I prefer Futurama.
