Right now it seems is USA is pondering right now whether to send a force to Liberia or not, and if so how big of a force it should be. So what do you guys think on what the West should do to deal with the situation in Liberia? It's looking pretty bad now.

Because of a historical connection with Liberia? I'm not usually down for this sort of endeavor, but part of me thinks that we need to help the Liberians. The cost to us wouldn't be that great and we'd be helping out our historical friend in West Africa.KH FOR OWNER!

We've done nothing in a similar situation in Liberia before...I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. I agree with what Drake said, for the most part. America put Liberia where it is; created it, essentially. And just as the Allies hold an interest in the safety and security of Israel (another nation created by the West), so should America hold an interest in the well-being of its former colony.Why should we (meaning the US) do anything?

While we are stretched pretty thin right now, it wouldn't take that many men if we led a UN peacekeeping force. It could be done if the political will existed (which it doesn't). It's really too bad that Rummy is killing off the Army's peacekeeping school; we could really use a large number of trained peacekeepers in times like these.KH FOR OWNER!

Soldiers should never be given law enforcement jobs. It doesn't even make sense. Soldiers are trained to follow orders, efficiently accomplish an objective, apply overwhelming force, and kill people. OK, fine, but "peacekeeping" missions are not good missions for people trained to be soldiers.
