there's nobody arguing against the idea that this is a sensationalist piece. it's very much sensationalist, and there are parts which i think are a bit exaggerated.

with that said, if the allegations about the conditions there are true, i find it a horrid place, and wonder why or how a parent could conceivably think it is a good idea to send their children there--especially, as in one case, when the "sin" is nothing more than having an "unacceptable boyfriend"...

That's a sort of brainwashing machinery Hitler and Stalin certainly would have been proud of if they had it. There is no bit of education. The system works through breaking personalities. Educating a person to be more compatible with society is an entirely different thing.

It sounds like it some case it is being done unnessecarily, but it could be nessecary in some cases. There are some children so drug ridden and angry they will likely have no future other jail if not corrected.

My God, some of these things are awful! Dressing incorrectly?! Wrong girlfriends?! And they get sent to this institution of what is torture (let's face it, that lying on the floor business for 6 months is torture by definition and is a gross breach of the Geneva convention, especially when involving minors). There are kids that need help, but this isn't the way, and for some of the piddling things they have done...sleeping around?! I mean, for f**ks sake, I wish I had done that when I was a kid and there is nothing wrong with it. It is sick and makes me feel very uneasy and these establishments should be shut down...especially unregulated bodies such as these. Any parent who sends their children to one of these should have their children taken into care, they will be treated a lot better.

It makes me truly sick It is breaking personalities. We have all done things when we were young that we are not proud of, and we have grown because of it. But this systematic abuse and torture is terrible and illegal by international law, let alone parents who are willing to subject their children to it, especially for 'unsuitable partners'. Close them down!

Knowledge and skills come with a questioning attitude and nead to be learned, not taught. Manners and courtesy? A morally righteous person who has found morality for himself and has had good role models will automatically adopt the relevant parts of it, reserving it for people who deserve it.
