Take into consideration what you plan to do afterwards. If you're thinking about academia, then an important factor is who you know and what good contacts you'll be able to make (which tends to be linked to the better schools). A simple phone call from some big shot will get you into Graduate programs faster than good marks.

My sister studied biochemistry six months at East Anglia, she did´t say it was bad - but I don´t think she was overwhelmed either.

Rogan Josh, better stick around in Edinburgh for a few more years if you want to see me. I've got one more year of sixth form to finish before I head off to uni.
Physics? ewww. I'm a chemistry geek.
The Guide to Experiments:
If it's green and slimy, it's biology. If it stinks and explodes, it's chemistry. If it's boring and doesn't work, it's physics. :-)Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

I say Edinburgh. Two of my friends are going there and they both say they loved it when they went to look round."Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman

I suggest you visit each, talk to some professors and students in the department you are interested in, check out the facilities and nightlife and then decide.
I visited @20 different schools the summer between Junior and Senior year in high school, and it was a big help in eliminating places that sounded good on paper but just didn't have the right feel.
And if all else fails, you can be my manservant and tutor my children in the sciences.Life and death is a grave matter;
all things pass quickly away.
Each of you must be completely alert;
never neglectful, never indulgent.
