As long as you have the chemicals (very easy to get outside of regulated markets of the 1st world) you can make speed in a bath tube. There's no trick and you can get the formula over the internet.

The children fighters in Somalia were given drugs to fuel their bloodlust, but it wasn't marijuana. I think it was a local narcotic, similar to beetlenut, where they had to chew it.

I don't remember where, but I've seen pic's of the children you are talking about. One child was carrying an AK-47 that was almost as large as the child. It's pretty messed up in the Congo right now.....but since they don't have oil......oh wel.

The speed was used in the diamond wars IIRC. Marijuana is a very different experience when eaten, much more of a psychadelic trip than when it is smoked, and it lasts longer also. I can see how it might be used by a third world military as part of its program. It won't make soldiers fight better (on the contrary IMO), but it will make their boring lives less painful, blot out some of the horror of what they've seen / done, all insuring that there are more soldiers around when the need arises for them.

Hmmm, my biggest problem is that we are relying on a 14 year old for accurate info.

By the way, in Somalia didn't the Somalians chew on something called Quat, or Kuat, or something like that, all day that put them into a frenzy?

It's very common in tropical central Africa, AFAIK, unheard of in much of the grasslands/coastal parts of the continent.

Livers have special significance in a lot of cannibalistic practice, so do hearts. Interestingly enough, it's more about organs and their supposed function/value, than it is about meat or calories - a lot of the bodies go to waste.

Actually this practice is also common in many parts of the world including parts of Europe such as the Balkans. It was common in the Indo China war, in Cambodia for example.

New Zealand maori soldiers ate the hearts of dead Germans in the Greek and Italian campaigns of World War II.

Well, yes. but it's not a huge chemical hit like speed. More like a cup of ultra strong coffee.

Mind you, there are plenty of stronger local alternatives. Khat's advantage is that it travels well - so well you can buy it at certain market stalls in London and many other non-Aftrican cities.

Pretty sure "Chard" is the English word for the plant.
