Every time I go south of Watford Gap, I come back feeling far more despondent than when I went down... regardless of how good a time I actually had down there.

But... I do want to go to London. At least infrequently.

as long as you're in London in the 8th of August, everything is great.

Maybe it's the leaving London that makes you despondent? The sudden realisation that you have to now return to the squalour you call home.

Go drink a glass of water out of the Thames, and tell me London isn't squalid.

Your never more than 40 feet from a rat, for one thing... although the rats sometimes have 2 legs, not 4.

It's a great place to visit, but I'm never going to try living there again.

I've seen Australian tourists actually lift the glass - and dump it pretty quick when they had a good look at it.

YOU are the one who implied London wasn't squalid.

In fairness that's probably the case for pretty much any major metropolitan river, anywhere...

That's not gold, that's a combination of blood and sh1t.

For the first time this weekend, I actually felt out of place in London. Discounting the rather random empty feeling I often get, I've always felt vaguely comfortable there. Wandering around Leicester Square alone on a Saturday evening (I was waiting for a friend) is mildly disconcerting though...

You should have gone to the Trocadero to kill the time.
