There are a couple of splendid places - judging from the photos on the internet - around Lamalou-les-Bains. What sort of towns are you talking about?
Are you talking about Montpellier and Narbonne or about the small villages in the countryside?
Oh, and is it just me, or has this site been down more than it's been up recently? Particularly after their downtime for "maintenance" the other day?
The site has been down several times since I am back, it was even crashing on a daily basis until yesterday.
Yes, it's been down just about every morning (my time).
Were you asking me a question in that post? Something seemed to get mixed up in the quote.

Ah! Much better. I meant the towns you talked about in the hills. Not the bigger places. Although Mrs finbar keeps talking about wanting to be near the sea.

I went there about a month ago... make sure there are no English sporting events on at the time you arrive. The following may happen when you arrive:
1) BAA will be so thoroughly engrossed in a sporting event (even something a spurious as lawn bowls) and you will be in baggage reclaim for 4 hours whilst they finish this enthralling battle.
2) BAA will "lose" your bags and will pretend to search for the "lost" bags. In truth, they actually have your bag but are trying to cover up the fact they are watching the bowls.
We don't check our bags, we bring carry-on only.
3) Make sure you have a foreign passport. The 2 queues for the British queue are MUCH longer than the 40-odd for foreign visitors.
I would use my british passport, but that would mean waiting in a different queue than my wife. I will be entering as a New Zealander.
4) Experiance dictates you should NEVER ask a London cabbie to take you from Heathrow to the City. You'll be ripped off. Soo if you can find a friend, a proper cabbie (as opposed to the tourist attractions), or if worst comes to worst, take the Underground.
I lived in London for year, so we'll just take the tube.
Have fun!
Thanks!

And how much of your Civ Gold fortune are you going to waste on the ABs tomorrow night? There's a 12.5 points start to the Wallabies.

By far the quickest and cheapest option providing you're not lugging a million ports. Ports. Now there's a Queensland word for you. Never hear it anywhere else in the country. Just thought I'd throw it in.
Interesting colloquialism...it sounds like one might be hampered by a half dozen crates of port...for the road, you know...

Sounds a bit like you know what it means, which doesn't speak well for you, Frozzy. To my mind, it's sort of up there with that classic Kiwi expression-for-all-occasions: "Good as gold".
"How are you?" "Good as gold"
"Nick off, hairy legs!" "Good as gold"
"Tell me, how do you split an atom?" "Good as gold"
Good as gold.

Port? In Queensland? Bundy Rum, more likely. Actually, they call suitcases ports as an abbreviation of portmanteau. Heavens knows how anyone up there came across any French.

Doesn't have quite the same ring to it coming from a North Islander.
