  • More lunacy from the religious fringe

Apparently, Fred "God Hates Fags" Phelps feels that Fred Rogers will burn in Hell because, heaven forbid, Mr. Rogers didn't use his television show as a soapbox to spew out hatred against various people.

Is Phelps really this ****ing nuts?

But Phelps himself was too cowardly to come, and sent his cronies:

Phelps Group Met by Counter-Protest at Mr. Rogers Memorial Service
    by Evan W. • Saturday May 03, 2003 at 04:06 PM

Rev. Fred Phelps was a no-show in Pittsburgh, today, though his supporters showed-up downtown, and were met by resistance from a large contingent of counter-protestors and Mr. Rogers fans.

On Saturday, May 3rd, the much maligned Reverend Fred Phelps made the wise decision not to show his face in Pittsburgh. He had planned to protest the life of Mr. Rogers at a memorial service, but was nowhere to be seen. However, Phelps did send his family and church members to do his dirty work. As might be expected, the Phelps group was met by a large group of counter-protestors who did not want to hear Phelps' message of hate and intolerance, especially when directed at the much loved Mr. Rogers.

The Phelps group was encountered right at the memorial service at Heinz Hall, in downtown Pittsburgh. Counter-protestors attempted to surround the small group, but were ordered to move by police who claimed they were blocking the sidewalk.

There were about 150-200 counter-protestors, and less than 10 protestors in Phelps' entourage. The Phelps group, members of the Westboro Baptist Church, reportedly had signs such as "Thank God for 9-11," "Aids Cures Fags," and "Mr. Rogers: Burn in Hell."

Surrounding the Phelps supporters were members of the Pittsburgh Organizing Group, holding a wall made of bedsheets which read "Rock On Mr. Rogers." Large signs with characters from the neighborhood of make believe were also present, some designed by people working with the Rosenberg Institute for Peace and Justice. Other groups participating in the counter-protest include the Lesbian Avengers and RESYST.

The Phelps crew was follwed by counter-protestors to Post-Gazette offices, and there are rumors a kiss-in is planned for later today at Chatham College.
Not mentioned is that of the 10 Phelpsites, one was an 8-year-old girl, and they were standing on a torn-up American flag.

    Sick, sick people.

Anybody who protests at a funeral to disgrace the person who has died, is seriously ****ed up. I find it disgusting behavior...

    Truly sick in the head.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. The word in this case is, "progressive", or "ahead of the pack".

Gay marriage is about equal rights, this crap is about religious tyranny.

Did you even read the articles, Herr Speer?

They were picketing the memorial of MR. ROGERS, saying he would burn in hell. You wouldn't consider that fringe behavior?

Most Americans, support gay rights, excluding marriage. Beyond that, a very large number of Americans support gays having seperate civil unions. The number who support full gay marriage, while a minority, is a large one and is growing all the time. So it is by no means fringe.

In short, you've not a clue what you're talking about, as usual. Thanks for playing, 'bye.

There's a reason why they refer to such people as fringe.

Actually, they pulled the same sh*t at Matthew Shepard's funeral.

This is a pathetic troll by comparison.

my point was that if Boris went down to the Polo Grounds, Bushwick, Queensbridge, or wherever else and went up to people and said, "I am gay. May I ask if you support gay rights?" he'll get a unanimous, "Get the **** away from me, ******!"
