  • Heterophobia

It was illegal to be a man..then it was wrong to be white...now you're shunned if you are straight. See this.

Ministers will propose homosexuals should get the same tax, pension and property rights as married couples provided they register their relationships in a new-style civil ceremony.

The government is, however, expected to provoke controversy by denying the same rights to unmarried heterosexual couples in long-term relationships. It will fuel claims that the government is pandering to the gay lobby.
Blatant discrimination against the majority yet again. How long will our once-great nation put up with this.

These plans are promoting counterfeit marriage. Two old ladies who had lived together for 40 years, for example, would have to pretend to be lesbians to benefit from the changes

I actually mostly agree with you on this. If unmarried gay life-partners are allowed those privileges then unmarried straight life-partners should be allowed them too. To do otherwise is just plain wrong.

anyone who wants to announce a union shuold be able to do so (and get full rights)

wether it is hetero, gay, or even non-sexual

my only problem with Bods example is the faking, they should be able to say that they are linked without pretending that there is something sexual occuring

also I would think that long term Hetero couples shuold get the benefits even if not married

The solution is simple: allow gay marriages.

There's an obvious answer to negate any form of unbalance. Allow gay marriage.

You know, if you just allowed gay people to get married instead of having to jump through this hoop of "equal yet not equal" civil unions then there would be no problem. Married couples would get pension, tax, etc benefits while people just living together wouldn't have their situation changed.

Or we could get rid of the institution of marriage all together and allow any long term couple to register their life union down at the local government office and leave the extravagance of the marriage ritual to those who want more of a display.

Heterophobia? If the government was heterophobic, John Prescott would do drag while Tony Blair and Gordon Brown snuck off to make out in the corner of the Commons. The Queen on our money would be Boy George. No, it's the fear of latent homophobia is Middle England voters that made the government adopt this halfway measure.

No to civil unions! No to being equal yet seperate! No to being granted privlages instead of having rights! Yes to marriage, plain simple marriage, for gays and straights!
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

Gay marriage should of course be allowed. To be honest I'm surprised that it isn't already. That really sucks. What kind of backwards society are we living in anway? Bleh!

True liberty is equal rights for all. Anything less is Hitlerism. When it comes to social views particularily this one I am not conservative, more towards the center.

This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay.
