Skyscrapers thread: why doesn't europe have many of those?

Boston and Phillie, two cities of the future! (if you consider 1900 the future...)
I liked Boston more than Phillie, if only becuase in Boston they know how to move out the poor people better, and its mroe compact (though not more pedestrian friendly, with the nuts who drive there).

did I say they were exactly the same? I don't think so. Most people I know who have been to Boston say it's a beautiful city and I would agree. But for me, mixing skyscrapers (especially monumentally lame ones like Boston's) in a historic core is an urbanisitic no-no. You apparently disagree, and who says we have to agree? Good for you if you like it.
And trust me, I've been to more US and Canadian cities you can imagine, just because I haven't been to Boston does not make me any less ignorant about it.

Did you know the three tallest buildings in the skyline are EXACTLY the same size? I believe it is because air traffic regulations dicatate that to be the largest size.

Having a big skyscraper is all about **** waving if you ask me - always has been...
That's why you see that most large skyscrapers are in countries or cities desperate for something to prove, it used to be the US and now its countries like Malaysia and China.
Europe doesn't need to wave it's ****, been there done that.
But don't get me wrong - I love them!
So far I've made it up the CN Tower, The Petronas Towers, One Canada Square and the Empire State and whenever I go to a large city I always try to go up one of its tallest buildings...
