    • Here's a nice artist's rendition or the Shanghai World Financial Center, now under construction. Shanghai has many beautiful skyscrapers, somer of them very imaginative, others very ... uh, unique (okay: ugly!). At least it looks like the world's tallest skyscraper is going to be an attractive one!

        • In Madrid, there are more modern buildings popping up unlike with many European cities...

          • Weee... according to GePap's site, Atlanta is 22nd!

I must say though, the Asian skyscrapers are the prettiest ones around. They are just amazing!

            • The Asian skyscrapers are very nice indeed. Along with ones in the middle eastern country of UAE, in the city of Dubai. I heard Saudi Arabia has a couple that are really neat looking..

              Dubai, UAE:

(Amazing.. I never seen a building in an area like that before..)

(I look at that.. wondering what it is.. but it is infact a building)

This is the only city in the middle east I would like to move to..

                • To me that one in Shanghai lets me wonder.. how would it stand up? And isn't there a new project in New York that will reclaim the title of the largest building?

Interestingly, Washington DC has low rises zoning enforced. DanS isn't it like 10 stories is the limit? But then when you get to the surrounding areas (Crystal City, etc.) the heights go up. Makes for a cool city, Washington with it's traditional landscape and then surrounded and the periphery by all these high rises. Sort of the opposite of having the big ones in the middle.

Well, I have a big one in the middle but that is another story!!!
I believe that the buildings are zoned by height, not by number of floors. K Street/Downtown, IIRC has a few buildings over 10 stories. In my Uni's neighborhood, there are some apartment buildings over 10 stories. Because DC is sort of wavy (Parts of the city are sloped down towards the middle, especially the Maryland side), some buildings have extra floors built into the side of the hill), I believe everything is zoned to be below The Monument and the Capitol.

I believe that the tallest buildings in the DC area in Rosalyn and Crystal City. I swear, however, that the huge Mormon temple next to the Beltway in Md. has them all beat
