I've lived a fwe places so I'll start with Nebraska. Nebraska has this wonderful baked bun stuffed with spiced meat and onion known as a Runza. Damned good eatin'. I haven't had one in decades cuz driving West from Chicago, one usually hits Nebraska at night.
Speaking of home hometown, Chicago is known for many special foods. First and foremost should come to mind is PIZZA! Chicago has the best pizza in the world, hands down. Chicago also has great hot dogs, french fries, polish sausage and pork chop sandwiches. Chicago used to be a great steak town, but since the packing houses are no longer there, it's nothing really special. Anywhere in the MidWest you can get good beef.
Especially when compared to where I live now. Florida has the most flavorless beef. :blech: Florida is a great seafood state. The three things I remember most about this state's food are stone crab claws. Best crab in the world, need a hammer to open up their big meaty claws. They have a conservation program, where they only take one claw and throw the crab back. Over the next year, the claw grows back. Severed cold with honey mustard or hot with drawn butter, mmMmmm. Another tasty morsal this tate has special are conch fritters. Big hunks of conk, fried up in batter and served with cocktail sauce. Yumyum. And for desert, who could forget KEY LIME PIE!
Key lime pie is the food of the gods. Florida Key limes, which are about the size of a walnut, and sort of yellow and green, tarter than normal limes. A real key lime pie is yellow, not green. While a grahm cracker crust is darn tasty, real key lime pies come in a flaky shortbread crust.
So how about where you live?
