No, I heard if from a Cuban.
Speer, relaxers, safer as they are, still result in hair that is stiff and course. Furthermore, I would suggest that Black girls who have good hair are either very rare or lying to you. Don't forget, I know a lot of bougeois Black folks from college, middle class folks who prided themselves on light skin and "good hair."
Rothy, if you're refering to Chegitz Guevara's Socialist Regroupment Pages, yes, those were mine, back in the day, when I still had a school account. There are still a rather large number of links to those non-existent pages, mainly because I had really good coverage of the 1995(?) French General strike. It got to be too much work to keep up while trying to go to school and work, however. I still have plans to redo the site . . . eventually. www.chegitz.net

I've always thought of "Chegitz" as just "Che" and was confused as to why Snowfire and Loinburger didn't understand to whom I was referring during our dinner.

Maybe so, but he is inextricably linked with Cuba, so I go with their pronounciation.

In French, "Che" is said "Tché" (vaguely similar to tshay, but the ay isn't a diphtongue and is less acute)

But I just read Che was called that because he was Argentinian and "che" was a typical argentine expression... So typical (according to one site ) that Argentinians are sometimes referred to as "che" by other Spanish speaker...

True. Many countries in latinamerica use the term, yet it is almost always linked to Argentina. Here in Mexico we never use it, but every Argentinian who I know of here has "che" as his nickname
And since Che and Castro met in Mexico, well, then it's even less surprising such nickname was used on him
